modeling digitals

why do you need digitals?

To work as a model, in any facet of the industry, one needs a series of photographs that show their current look in a simple, natural, and professional manner. Back in the day, an individual would have polaroids taken of them from several different angles, often shot with only window light. These digitals, or “polaroids”, are often updated every few months or if there is any significant change in the model's appearance. Agencies want to see what a model looks like in their most natural state. Therefore, these images have no retouching, display very little to no makeup, and are shot with simple light in front of a white or neutral backdrop.

what to weaR?

Agencies like to see models in a simple look that can easily showcase their features and shape. I tend to recommend form fitting clothes that compliment the body's natural shape rather than baggy or loose fitting items that hide the body's curves. Black, brown, and grey are the standard colors for both tops and bottoms.

For female presenting fashion models I recommend form fitting black jeans, leggings, or jeggings with a form fitting black or neutral top. For male presenting fashion models I would recommend black jeans and a form fitting t-shirt or tank.

For any fashion/swimwear models the color scheme is the same. Male presenting models tend to be photographed shirtless to showcase physique and shape. Female presenting clients can wear black bikinis or undergarments either barefoot or with heels. Heels are always recommended to help lengthen and accentuate lines and form.

MAKEUP

Again, these photos are used to showcase your natural state to agencies and casting. You can wear small amounts of concealers and lip balm but please refrain from using any mascara, eye shadow, eyeliner, or blush.

HAIR/NAILS

Similar to makeup, hair should also remain as natural as possible. Clean and natural or an optional low ponytail are perfectly fine.

Neutral or natural nails are always best. As crazy as it sounds, nails can pull focus in digitals so it’s best to lead with natural or clear/nude polish.

ACCESSORIES

It’s best to avoid any accessories like necklaces, earrings, and bracelets. We want the focus to be solely on you.
